Our Alpe d’Huez Snow Report and Forecast 10th January is pleased to report that after a week of stormy conditions, the sun finally looks set to make a comeback.
Alpe d’Huez has seen some wild conditions over the past week thanks to some intense storms. As in many other resorts hit by Storm Eleanor in the middle of last week, the Alpe d’Huez ski area was completely closed on Wednesday, with all in resort advised to stay within their accommodation.
The storm did clear somewhat for a few nice days of skiing towards the weekend, where guests could really make the most of the snowfall and get out on the slopes. The below image was taken on Saturday 6th January and posted to Twitter with the caption: “After the storm, the sun! More than 2m of snow at the top of the @ alpedhuez !”
However, the bad weather returned on Sunday, with the entire area having to close for a second time. With around 2 metres falling between Christmas and New Year followed by these latest storms, it’s been an incredibly snowy few weeks in Alpe d’Huez. The snow depth is now at around 165cm on the lower slopes and up to 190cm on the upper areas.
However, it finally looks set to calm down as the forecast for the next week is certainly looking up. Sunshine and light cloud will dominate the weather until Sunday, which should make for some amazing skiing. A light fresh dusting on Monday and Tuesday to follow the weekend’s storm means that the pistes should be in good condition with some lovely powdery snow. Wind speeds will remain low and temperatures consistent, with an average of around -6 degrees.
