A mixed picture in North America with plenty more snow in the West of the continent – where it hasn’t really stopped snowing heavily for more than three months (and forecasters say it isn’t about to) – but ‘unseasonably warm’ weather in the East where more smaller and southerly resorts have been closing early.
(Mammoth pictured top and below)
In Canada Whistler Blackcomb has had a metre of snow in the last week, giving great powder conditions, other resorts in Alberta and BC have had 25-45cm.
Much less snow in Quebec to the East but that’s not a huge problem at Mont Ste Anne which says it has Canada’s biggest snowbase with 423cm up top, it did get 16cm of fresh snow too.
South of the border there have been more big snowfalls in the west of the country where Mammoth is still reporting a base of nearly 9 metres (30 feet) up top. Heavenly reported 110cm and Squaw Valley and Jackson Hole another 60cm a piece.
Little or no fresh snow in the Eastern US though and on piste conditions are reported to be heavy going because of the warm weather conditions. It is snowing again now though in Vermont…
