Warren Smith’s European freeski festival, The Cervinia Ride (cervinia.it), moves to the famous Italian resort from its former base at Saas Fee later this month. The move to the Aosta Valley from Switzerland makes the Ride 30% more affordable according to the organisers who quote the Where to Ski & Snowboard Retail Price Index Italy which found that Italy is 30.7% cheaper than Switzerland for food, drink and lodging.

The European freeski festival, will see athletes and aspiring pros gathering in Cervinia to compete in a big air competition and an expression session rail jam on the Plateau Rosa Glacier.

The Cervinia Ride is part of the Warren Smith Ski Academy’s summer of courses and tuition on the glacier with the action taking place at 3,480m on Cervinia’s glacier slopes on 26 July 2013.

“We’ve just kicked off our summer programme of training and camps here in Cervinia on the glacier, and the snow conditions are fantastic on the piste and off,” said Warren Smith, the event’s director, “The whole area’s been great – everything on the Cervinia side is just so affordable that it’s made every element about moving here so much of an upgrade we’re super happy. Summer skiing is on – and it’s definitely the best I’ve ever seen.”

Cervinia’s terrain park – the Gravity Park on the Plateau Rosa Glacier – features a world cup-standard halfpipe, kickers and rails. The park has benefitted from the recent spring snowfalls and is in excellent condition say the organisers.
