Snow Sure Tignes

Long Season

Always one of the first in the country to open in November each year, and among the last few to close nearly six months later in May, it’s a sure bet for snow reliability.

Apart from its huge 300km ski area, much of it lying above 1,800m, one of Tignes’ big plus points is its famous Grand Motte glacier where the ski lifts climb to 3,456m, one of the highest lift-accessed points in France. The terrain up here is so snow-sure that it’s open in summer and winter for both international ski teams training and recreational snow sports.  This high-altitude resort offers something for all tastes and abilities. Individuals can truly experience the mountains their own way.

Vanoise National Park

Tignes lies within the stunning Vanoise National Park, which stretches across much of the Tarentaise region. Wildlife (marmots, chamois, ibex) thrive in this park, and the scenery is out of this world. Lake Tignes and Grande Motte Glacier add to the beauty and adventure of Tignes, showcasing why this resort is so popular among outdoor enthusiasts.

Ski Area

The Tignes-Val d’Isère ski area offers 300km of marked piste, suitable for all levels. For beginners, there are a few lifts (three chairlifts, magic carpets and drag lifts) accessible for free. For more experienced skiers, there are plenty of red and black slopes to keep you occupied and challenged. The lack of trees presents plenty of open powder fields between the runs, and there are multiple off-piste itineraries to sample. For those looking to show off their freestyle skills, Tignes features slalom stadiums, a mogul field, a half pipe and a beginner/intermediate snow park.

For many people, the après-ski is just as important as the skiing. Tignes has legendary après spots, including the Underground Bar and Melting Pot, which are guaranteed to get everyone up dancing.

Off the mountain, the fun doesn’t stop. Try ice diving on the lake, heli-skiing, ice driving or the Bun J Ride – all fun activities to get the adrenaline flowing. New Year is one of the best times to visit Tignes as they organise the festival “Pop-Rock”, thrilling those who love rock and pop music. Christmas in Tignes is also a magical experience. The atmosphere in resort is buzzing with live music and markets.
