The Ziller Valley is one of the most beautiful in the ski world and also one of the easiest to reach, just a short hop from the Austrian Tirol’s capital Innsbruck. It’s home to resorts we know well, like Mayrhofen, and a total of four large ski areas which together offer more than 500km of slopes, all covered by one great Zillertal Superski pass.
One of the four, the Ski & Glacier World Zillertal 3000, located just 20 minutes from Mayrhofen, is also home to one of the world’s two year-round ski areas, the Hintertux Glacier. In fact, in 2022 it was briefly the only year-round ski area as it managed to keep a few miles of slopes open in the hot summer months when the other centre, Zermatt, was forced to close for a while.
Apart from its reliable snow cover and in the winter months huge lift-served vertical of 1,750m, Hintertux has a big reputation in the freestyle community with its famous Betterpark usually open from late September, drawing in skiers and riders for some early autumn park life fun months before most resorts have even started building their parks.
