Several truckloads of snow were brought down to central Livigno at 1850m in the Italian Alps at the weekend.
A grooming tractor followed the dumper tricks down the resort’s narrow main street to prepare the snow.
The snow delivery, to the delight of summer visitors, was for a biathlon demonstration event – combining cross country skiing and rifle target shooting.

Two of the world’s best male and female biathletes, Dorothea Wierer and Dominik Windisch are Italian and they were in Livigno to demonstrate their skills.
They were amongst a group of races at the ‘Livigno Biathlon Event’ which continues all week. Other events have included a demonstration of biathlon in its original form in traditional dress.
The snow had been stored from last winter through the spring and summer in a massive pile protected from the heat by sawdust and tarpaulins.
