The number of places to go summer skiing and boarding in Italy has decline over the years and as we entered the last week of last month only one area – Passo Stelvio – was open.
However last Wednesday a second resort, with the country’s highest slopes, Cervinia (pictured above and below), re-opened for just over two months of glacier skiing and boarding.
It’s lift-linked across the border to Zermatt so you can ski over an international border in July if you wish.
Temperatures in northern Italy have been hot – s you’d expect in summer – reaching well in to double figures even on the mountain tops, and there’s been no fresh snow for nearly two months. However based are still reasonably good at around 90cm/ three feet at Passo Stelvio.
