There have been a few inches of fresh snow on Austrian slopes so far this week, freshening up cover. Higher resorts like Obergurgl (above) reported 10cm of snow and many others 3-6cm.
Like much of the Alps, Austria has had little snow for a month so Christmas skiers are sliding on bases made up of snow that fell in November, topped up with snowmaking for the country’s mighty arsenal of snowmaking guns which (unlike the past two Decembers) have been able to work well due to the generally cold weather, which has also slowed any thawing.

Best bases are up on the country’s glaciers where there’s still a metre or more of cover at resorts like Solden and Pitztal.
Austria still has the most optimistic forecasts for snow over the coming week too with 20-40cm expected for many areas. Fugen is pictured below.
