Second Day On the Podium For Knight and Wild

04 Mar 16

For the second day in a row, British athlete Millie Knight stood on the top step of the podium at the World Cup Finals in Aspen Colorado.  Yesterday was her maiden World Cup win of the season in the Downhill guided by Brett Wild of the Royal Navy, today the pair backed this up with an equally impressive win in the first of two Super-G’s.  Leading at the first split, Knight and Wild never relinquished their advantage though they were pushed very close by the second British pairing of Menna Fitzpatrick guided by the Army’s Jennifer Kehoe.

Sochi Gold medallist Kelly Gallagher, guided by the RAF’s Gary Smith, were narrowly pushed into 4th place by three tenths of a second, by American overall World Cup Leader Danelle Umstead guided by her husband Rob.

The result means that Knight now leads the World Cup Super-G standings going into the final race of the season tomorrow.  Perhaps more intriguing though will be the battle between Umstead and Fitzpatrick who are currently neck and neck in the race for the Overall World Cup title.  With only 20 points between them, should Fitzpatrick beat the American in tomorrow’s race they will win the Overall World Cup title. Competition starts at 5.30pm GMT.
