Big Sky Resort in Montana, USA, says it will open an unprecedented three new terrain parks this winter, as well as three new ski runs.
Big Sky was already one of the three largest ski areas in North America, with more than 5,800 acres of terrain, and the new terrain increases its ski and boardable terrain still further.
Big Sky received over 75cm of fresh snow last week and is expecting a strong opening for winter 2015-16 in less than a fortnight’s time on November 26th.
The new terrain parks include The Cache, an advanced new natural style park is located to also allow easy access to and from the newly revamped Swifty Terrain Park that has received increased acreage and an improved jumpline.
The Cache replaces the traditional Freestyle Forest in the Moonlight area, which has been redeveloped into a family friendly kid’s adventure area named The Lost Frontier.
The other two new parks include advanced park, Peacemaker, and intermediate park, Maverick; both are located on the Wagon train run.
The three news runs include two new intermediate-level glade runs, White Magic, a nod to the classic Warren Miller Film of the same name and Short Stack, accessed via the top of Derringer chair lift on the skier’s left.
The third trail is a new beginner glade run, Playground, which opens an additional five acres of terrain.
Big Sky’s Mountain Operations crews have also been busy improving the skiing experience at Big Sky by cutting a new black diamond ski connection, Comet, providing easier access from Outer Limits ski run to the top of Six Shooter chair lift.
