In an interview with The Associated Press, The International Ski Federation’s President and IOC member Gian Franco Kasper has said he is worried about plans to move the FIFA 2022 Football World Cup to winter to avoid the extreme heat in host nation Qatar, as the event would clash with the 2022 Winter Olympics.

All three organisations involved, the FIS, FIFA and the IOC, are based within 150 miles of one another in Switzerland.

FIFA is currently considering staging the 2022 World Cup at various dates between November and January but no decision is yet to bed made.  A decision on where the 2022 Winter Olympics will be staged will be made in summer 2015.  So far only Kazakhstan has submitted an official bid, but 10 other destinations may do so, nine of them in Europe.

Mr Kasper told the Associated Press he believed that international sports federations should respect one another and that staging the Football World Cup in winter would commercially “kill” support for the Winter Olympics that year.
