Colorado’s Keystone Resort has officially kicked off the 2025-26 North American winter ski season, becoming the first resort on the continent to open its slopes.
The celebration began at 3pm on Saturday afternoon with the resort opening over two miles of freshly groomed terrain on the Schoolmarm and Silver Spoon trails, marking a historic first: an afternoon launch leading into night skiing under the resort’s signature lights. There was also a hike-to terrain park illuminated by snowcat lights.
Keystone made its opening move shortly after nearby Arapahoe Basin announced it would be opening at 8.30am today, Sunday, 26th October.
Guests at Keystone were treated to a lively opening afternoon atmosphere featuring, a live DJ set, and $5.50 beers and hot dogs in honour of Keystone’s 55th season.
“We’re thrilled to kick off the season here at Keystone with over two miles of skiing and riding,” said Shannon Buhler, Vice President and General Manager of Keystone Resort. “We know how much this moment means to our employees and community, and our team has poured their hearts into creating an incredible early opening celebration. We’re just excited to be back on snow!”
Skiers and riders can access the terrain via the River Run Gondola, with laps available off the Montezuma Express lift with daily operations running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Night skiing will return on select Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays starting Thanksgiving,
The resort reports its snowmaking team is working around the clock to expand terrain as conditions allow. Uphill access remains closed during early season operations and will reopen on designated routes outside lift hours once conditions permit.
