Ski holiday company Iglu Ski has trawled through more than two decades of snow and sunshine data from snow reporting experts Snow-forecast to determine which of Italy’s snow-sure, higher altitude resorts score the most highly on both counts to most likely deliver the next April ski  conditions.

Cervinia, which as of last Autumn is now open for snowsports year-round, conditions permitting, came out on top with average April weekly snowfall of 43cm, an average of 1.8 sunny days a week and of about one powder day each week.

Passo Tonale, due to open until 5th May and currently posting one of the world’s deepest snowpacks at 3.5m up top came in second with similar powder and sunshine stats to Cervinia but a 33cm weekly April snowfall average.

Champoluc on the Monterosa Pass placed third overall, with just over half a day of bluebird conditions and half a day of powder on average but the third best average weekly April snowfall of 28cm, it’s open to April 14th.

Livigno, in 4th place, scored slightly higher on average sunshine days with 1.4  a week, and averaged 23cm of weekly snowfall in April. It’s open to May 2nd this year.

Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomites (below) took fifth place with similar weekly powder and snowfall days, one sunny day and a 22cm weekly snowfall average. It plans to stay open to the start of May.
