Heavy Snowfall in The Alps

A storm system is bringing heavy pre-season snowfall to higher slopes in The Alps, raising anticipation levels!

Accumulations in the first 24 hours have been in the 5-20cm range, but the stormy conditions are expected to continue over the next few days with forecasters predicting high altitude slopes could see as much as 50cm by the start of next week. About 15 glacier ski areas are already open for the season, most of them in Austria and Switzerland, a few in Italy, and they’ve been reporting powder conditions this morning. The French season start, at Tignes and Val Thorens, is still a month away.

Low temperatures have also helped many ski areas put their snowmaking efforts up to max to work on base building ahead of the season.
