It’s ‘pond-skimming’ season in ski resorts around the world when brave souls, often in fancy dress and sometimes steering unlikely craft, attempt to slide down a slope then cross a ‘pond’ of various sizes – usually on skis or snowboard.
These pond skimming events take various formats, but in Engelberg, Switzerland, the idea is that while the pool to be crossed is not one of the largest, those who slide across it successfully will be invited back for a second attempt but starting lower down the ramp, so they hit the pond at less speed, and are less likely to cross.
“The last person remaining above the water is the winner,” confirms the organiser.
Taking place on Saturday April 18th this year, the event kicks off at 1pm with Champions’ party with awards ceremony at 3pm.
