Austria’s Biggest Ski Area To Be 374km by 2022 Predicts Property Developer

A property sales company looking to sell apartments in a new development set to open next year at the Austrian Tirol resort of Fieberbrunn says the village will be part of Austria’s largest ski area by 2022.

Fieberbrunn, which also has a reputation as one of Austria’s snowiest resorts, was linked to the Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang area several years ago to create what was briefly Austria’s largest ski area, taking the title away from long time holder, the Skiwelt.  However the long-awaited lift-linking of the St Anton and Lech sides of the Arlberg took the ‘biggest area’ title away from them a year later with the Arlberg claiming Austria’s first 300km+ lift-linked area with 306km of runs.

Now agents selling apartments in the new All-Suite Resort Fieberbrunn are predicting that a new lift now under construction is the first stage in a lift link to neighbouring Zell am See, and that subsequent lifts will complete the connection by 2022 to create what will be one of the world’s biggest ski areas with 374km of piste.

There’s been no official claim from the resorts involved that this is the plan, and it’s also unclear if other Austrian ski areas might expand their areas over the next few years too.
