Big Sky Resort to Open Kircliff Glass Observatory on Lone Peak in 2025
Big Sky Resort in Montana is set to unveil Kircliff, a dramatic new glass observatory perched at 11,166 feet on Lone Peak, opening 20 December 2025. Cantilevered off the mountain’s edge, the structure offers sweeping 360-degree views across three states and two national parks, including Yellowstone and Grand Teton — redefining high-altitude access in the American West.
Kircliff marks a major milestone in Big Sky’s decade-long transformation, part of its Big Sky 2025 investment plan. For the first time, guests can reach the summit without skis or hiking boots, thanks to the new Explorer Gondola and Lone Peak Tram. The journey from base to summit takes just 15 minutes, with panoramic views unfolding across ten mountain ranges, including the Spanish Peaks and Gallatin Range.
“This reimagined summit experience transforms Lone Peak into a year-round, must-visit destination,” said Troy Nedved, president and COO of Big Sky Resort. “Kircliff unlocks the opportunity for every guest to stand on one of the highest peaks in the region and witness a horizon that stretches from Yellowstone to the Tetons.”
The Explorer Gondola — now the world’s fastest 10-person gondola — features heated seats, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a mid-station serving beginner terrain. It’s the thirteenth new lift in Big Sky’s capital programme, reinforcing the resort’s reputation for lift innovation.
Kircliff joins a season of bold developments, including the arrival of M by The Alinea Group — a four-month culinary residency led by three-Michelin-star chef Grant Achatz. Together, these projects reflect Big Sky’s vision for a modern mountain experience where architecture, accessibility and alpine culture converge. Big Sky’s ski season begins 26 November 2025.
