Whistler Blackcomb has received 204cm (nearly 7 feet) over the seven days since it opened a week ago, giving powder conditions for those in the resort for opening week.
Whistler, now owned by Vail Resorts, has had a total of 313cm (over 10 feet) of snow since November 1st and is placed second for snowfall-to-date in Canada behind Revelstoke, also in BC, which says it has received over 4.3m (over 14 feet) of snow this autumn (about double the average for this time of year), and it hasn’t opened for the ski season yet.
“The snow couldn’t have been timed more perfectly providing a very memorable opening week,” said a Whistler Blackcomb spokesperson, who continued, “Skiing conditions are excellent on both mountains with great coverage and more snow in the forecast heading into the weekend. The Harmony 6 Express opened for the season yesterday and patrol is working hard to open more alpine terrain once it is safe to do so.”
The long-range forecast for next week shows a cooling trend, which will allow the snowmaking team to move down the mountain and work on the runs heading to the village.
