With the Diavolezza glacier near St Moritz and the Titlis glacier above Engelberg both concluding their 2016-17 ski seasons on the last weekend in May, and Saas Fee not opening for its 9 month long 2017-18 season until July, this is only one choice for June skiing or boarding in Switzerland, but it is a good one: Zermatt
Zermatt has lots of claims to fame – the higher ski lifts in Europe, one of only two ski areas in the world that aims to open for skiing and boarding every day of the year, and as lift served summer vertical that’s a big as anything you’ll find in the southern hemisphere, it’s all good, even before you take in that stunning view of the Matterhorn.
As we enter June the snow depth lies at 1.5m (five feet) on the glacier with some fresh snow in May. Around 8km of piste is open served by seven lifts.
The cross-border link to summer ski in to Italy above Cervinia re-opens on the last Saturday of June.
