Where To Ski or Board in Switzerland at the End of April 2017

Swiss ski centres have seen some big snowfalls this week, Engelberg (pictured top, video below), which is open in to may, and the Lotschental ski region have both now reported more than 1m of fresh snow since the Easter weekend.

Snow has been falling almost constantly for four days, giving 20-30cm of fresh snow every day this week.

So… Late April 2017 – after around half of Swiss ski centres have already closed – is seeing much better powder conditions in Switzerland than Christmas / late December did.

Most other Swiss centres have had 10-30cm of fresh snow (Verbier’s had 20cm) and conditions are more like regular spring skiing, with the best snow high up, and best snow conditions from mid-Morning to early afternoon each day.

Quite a few Swiss resorts are open to the start of May with Zermatt of course open for skiing and boarding, with the highest slopes in Europe, year round.

Andermatt is pictured below.
