Quite a snowy week in Western North America – 80cm more at Whistler, 60cm at Big White and 40cm at Revelstoke all in BC, Canada, then south of the border bigger accumulations still – 110cm (nearly four feet) at Telluride in Colorado and 30-80cm accumulations at many areas elsewhere in Colorado as well as Utah, Washington State and others.

Mt Baker, in the latter state, is approaching 20m of snowfall this season – believed to be more than any other resort on the planet.

Spring snow!

The snow's been falling all day!

Although the snow lies metres thick at resort level across the West the majority of resorts will however be closing for the season over the next three weekend as is traditional.  There’s just not enough customers to justify the resort’s maintaining their big cost bases to keep going.

Not all resorts will close though, many in California will stay open later in to spring and in Mammoth and Squaw Valley’s case to 4th July. In Alberta and BC Lak Louise, Sunshine and Whistler will stay open in to May too.

Still more substantial snowfalls are forecast for the week ahead.
