Western Italy has had a snowy week with resorts in the Milky Way region on the French border claiming up to 90cm (three feet) of new snow.

Other big snowfall winners included Macugnaga with 65m (Over two feet) of new snow with the Monterosa region reporting 40cm there.

Bases in the West of Italy are generally in the 1-2m mark on higher runs so the remaining weeks of the season now seem secure. Macugnaga, again, has the deepest base at 2.4m but other centres including Alana, Cervinia and La Thuile also have more than 2m lying.

There’s also some good news at the end of a challenging season in the Dolomites with Cortina d’Ampezzo reporting 30cm of fresh snow on Wednesday – Cortina keeps part of its ski area open to the start of May.

Alta Badia has the thinnest bae in Italy for a major resort, as it has had for most of the season with 5-20cm of snow on its slopes, but it still has most of its terrain open thanks to the on going snowmaking effort.
