In an unusual move – with resorts generally gradually reducing summer opening of their glaciers for snowsports and only half the number of ski areas offering summer skiing at all now compared to 2000 – Les 2 Alpes has announced its summer ski season will be a week longer this year – extending in to September from its usual June start week.

Les 2 Alpes claims to have the largest skiable glacier in Europe with the summer slopes situated between 3,600 and 2,900 metres and open every morning between 7am and 12.30pm from 24 June to 2 September 2017.

The glacier is a summer training site for some of the world’s best skiers and snowboarders and international teams from Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Poland, Canada, Korea…train every morning in alpine and freestyle. But there’s something for all levels and the slopes also include a 3.4km long beginner run and Les 2 Alpes’ ski schools offer lessons for all abilities from, complete first timer up.

In total there are 111 hectares of slopes open in summer: 9 blue runs, 1 green run, 1 red run served by 17 lifts, a beginner area, freestyle area and a freeride area.  The glacier is accessible from the resort via a 30 minute ride with the Jandri Express cable car.

Facilities also include an 18-hectare snowpark packed with modules to suit everyone; hips, rails, Slopestyle, quarters, whoops and big air.

On average, there are 1,500 skiers a day on the glacier in the summer compared to 10,000 skiers a day in the winter.
