Although it may feel like winter is far away, the skiing and boarding never stops for members of Britain’s various snowsports squads.
With the Southern Hemisphere’s winter season now in full swing, members of the Delancey British Alpine Ski Team are about to begin a busy few weeks of competitions across Australia, New Zealand and South America. For others, their summer training will continue with intensive training on the glaciers of Europe.
The first British team athlete in action will be Zak Vinter who will be competing in the Slalom and Giant Slalom FIS races in Hotham, Australia this weekend on 30th and 31st July.
The action then continues in Australia as Zak is joined by fellow Delancey British team athletes Max Baggio, Ollie Davies, Darcie Mead, Megan Jenkins and Alannah Lawrie who are set to take part in the NC and NJC races in Thredbo from the 10th – 14th August.
Over in South America, Paul Henderson (pictured above), Fraser Middleton and Ella Still are competing in Chile, joined by English Alpine team athlete Ollie Eaton. After a week of training in the Chilean mountains, they will compete on 3rd of August in the FIS Giant Slalom. They will then make the hop over to neighbouring Argentina where they will race in Chapelco on the 7th and 8th August in the South American Cup and National Championship races.
Delancey British National Downhill Champion Cara Brown is also based in South America for the summer, and is set to compete in several races in both Argentina and Chile. Her fellow teammate, Charlie Guest, will be based in New Zealand for a summer of intensive training following her back injury early last winter, and is also expected to compete in several races throughout the summer.
After last winter’s groundbreaking season for Slalom specialist Dave Ryding he has a busy summer of training in Europe ahead of him, where he will be joined by team mate Alexandra Tilley under the coaching of Tristan Glasse Davies and Noel Baxter. Both will be working on a hard summer of training in preparation for next winter’s World Cup circuit.
