Snow And Sheep in September

Zermatt is one of two ski areas open for snowsports all year round.

Anyone arriving in September for some skiing and boarding have an extra attraction to look forward to over the weekend of 13th/14th September.

The annual  Shepherd Festival is on, which features an entertaining award ceremony for what’s determined by the judges to be the best-looking Valais black nose sheep and for the coveted Zermatt Shepherd of the Year.

The Shepherd Festival takes place at the Schweigmatten/Furi and the resort says that, “The day offers plenty of opportunities to marvel at the attractive and affectionately coiffed sheep.”

A varied festive program is organised for young and old alike and Zermatt’s mascot, Wolli the sheep will, of course, attend the festivities personally, as he will also be celebrating his birthday on the 13th.
