Storm Stella brought the biggest snowfall in North America this week with several resorts in Vermont (Killington and Mount Snow) reporting 98cm each in 48 hours at the start of the week.

More snow in the East is quite unusual, particularly this season, which has seen huge snowfalls in the West – just not this past week.

In fact it has been warm in the west, leading to springlike conditions, but it is expected to get colder and snowier from the weekend.

In any case bases remain huge at many western resorts, above 10 feet/3m at many with Jackson Hole at nearly 4m, Squaw Valley at more than 6m and Mammoth at more than 8m.

North of the border there’s seen more of an East/West balance with resorts receiving up to 40cm in both BC and Quebec. Mont Ste Anne in Quebec, which has the deepest base in Canada, at 4.3m got 38cm of snow, whilst Sun Peaks in BC got 37cm.

It has been too warm in Western Canada too but again cooler weather and fresh snow is in the forecast.
