Europe’s highest ski area of Zermatt has been voted the most popular destination in Switzerland, the 6th most popular destination in Europe and the 12th most popular destination in the world in the TripAdvisor 2015 Travellers’ Choice Awards.
The famous ski resort moved up from 19th place in Europe last year and was beaten only by five European capitals for popularity – Istanbul, Prague, London, Rome and Paris.
The only ski resort to make either chart of the crème-de-la-crème of destinations in Europe and worldwide, along with the five European capitals in the worldwide table it was beaten only by Marrakech, Morocco; Siem Reap, Cambodia; Hanoi, Vietnam; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Cape Town, South Africa and New York City, USA.
It was the seventh year in a row that TripAdvisor handed out the Travellers’ Choice Awards based on the millions of evaluations and opinions submitted by TripAdvisor travellers. 469 destinations from around the world were ranked.
“We are proud that Zermatt is so popular with more than 27,000 ratings from internet users showing Zermatt as very attractive,” said Daniel Luggen, Zermatt’s Director of Tourism.
