A hi-tec eight seat chairlift is under construction at Scheffau in the Austrian Skiwelt.

The new lift will replace the old Aualm quad chairlift which clocked up 23.8 million passengers during its 25 years in operation.

The ultra-modern new chairlift, which will cost 10 million euros – one of the biggest spends ever on a chairlift –  will feature the latest generation of the world’s most advanced lift  technology, according to a Skiwelt statement.

The tech includes conveyor belt entry, heated seats, weather protection hoods and self-locking safety bars with footrests which can no longer be manually lifted on the ascent.

The Skiwelt believes that these new features will be particular good news for families with children as well as beginners.

The lift will be installed this winter and should be ready to open when the new season starts on 6th December (or possibly November 29th if there’s good snowfall).
