What’s reported to be an all new ski area is set to open in Utah this winter.

It’s believed to be the first new ski area to emerge in North America since the global economic crash in 2008, which led to the closure of several resorts.

Cherry Peak ski area near the town of Logan and Richmond will have around 20 runs, the longest 2km long, and a 385m vertical.

Uplift will be provided by three triple chairlifts and a carpet lift.  It will be open from 9am to 9pm six days a week and offer ice skating and tubing as well as snowsports.  One or two terrain parks will be created ready for the start of the season.

In more good signs, another Utah ski area, Nordic Valley, has announced a significant expansion and Norway mountain Michigan is to reopen for 2014-15 under new ownership after two years of closure.
