A new 100% off piste ski area has opened under the 2877m Pic du Midi, in the French Pyrenees, the freeride mecca of the French Pyrenees.

Two cable cars access this area, with the option to descend from the first or from the top with skiing on all three sides of the Pic du Midi.

Skiers can end back on the slopes of Bareges and La Mongie or choose to finish at the bottom of the resort where a free shuttle carries skiers back to the cable car.

A new ski pass offers unlimited skiing at the Pic du Midi for £34 per day.

During peak holiday times, the last descent from the Pic du Midi will be at 7.30pm, perfect for skiers wanting to watch the sun set, who  also enjoy a new champagne bar.

There’s also the chance to stay over with 15 bedrooms at the observatory at the top of the mountain  with a combined capacity of up to 27 people.  These have been completely redecorated at the Pic du Midi in minimalist style with raised beds to admire the view of the Pyrenees. Guests enjoy local specialities for dinner and sleep amongst the stars then enjoy breakfast at sunrise and ski first tracks.

Ski Collection offers a week in the three-star Tourmalet residence in La Mongie from £181 per person self-catering. Prices are based on four people sharing a two-bedroom apartment and include Eurotunnel return crossing for a car and passengers. (www.pyrenees-holiday.com / www.picdumidi.com).
