The most expensive ski chalet rental for 2013-14 was believed to be the 450,000 Euros being asked for a 10 night stay at the start of January over the crucial Russian New Year holiday period at Chalet Edelweiss in Courchevel 1850.  That was the price according to The Luxury Chalet Collection (www.luxurychaletcollection.com) which has just released its annual selection of the world’s 20 finest chalets, but that period has now been booked.

“The Edelweiss is officially the largest and most luxurious chalet in Courchevel,” said Rupert Longsdon, Founder and Director of The Oxford Ski Company which compiles The Luxury Chalet Collection.

The chalet sleeps 16 and has a similar number of staff including two chefs, two butlers, a chauffeur, concierge, several housekeepers a massage therapist and a ski instructor.  At low season dates you can access all this and its extensive luxury facilities for 80% less 80,000 Euros and they’re still available to book even though the peak period has gone.

It’s available at that lowest rate for the end-of-season week from 20th April 2014, with the two weeks before only a little higher at 100,000 Euros.  Most other remaining weeks of the season are in the  200,000 – 280,000 Euro bracket for a week.

The Edelweiss is one of eight new entries in The Luxury Chalet Collection for 2013-14, along with Chalet N in Lech, which sleeps 18, has a similar staff (plus a beautician/hairdresser) and where the luxuries include having your initials monogrammed on your pillowcase.  It costs from 297,000 Euros per week or around 42,430 Euros per day, so is not far behind the Edelweiss.

Of the others new entries, Harriet Tetlow, a Private Travel Consultant for the company especially recommended the San Lorenzo Mountain Lodge in Plan de Corones in the Italian Dolomites, describing it as “incredibly special.”

“I visited a few months ago and was totally blown away. The helipad, stube and stainless steel whirlpool all add to the magic.”

Sleeping up to 10, it can be rented for 21,000 to 30,100 Euros per week (based on six adults) and the company is keen to stress that behind these headline prices, luxurious chalets can be rented for far less away from peak dates.
