The Amsterdam based ski website Snowplaza has had the novel idea of rating Austrian ski resorts according to the price of the popular mountain desert dish, the Germknödel, a yeast dumpling with vanilla sauce, at the highest mountain restaurants at each ski centre.
The findings were that the most expensive ski resort was Lech am Arlberg with a €10 Germknödel, and the best value for money resorts, in terms of the combined price of lift pass and Germknödel, Wilder Kaiser – Brixental (The Skiwelt). Sölden actually hadf the cheapest Germknödel costing €4.60 at its 2,796m highest restaurant, but it’s €246 was more than the Skiwelt’s €219, making the lastter better value overall, according to Snowplaza’s findings.
