InTheSnow’s correspondent & columnist, Ben Clatworthy has been announced as the winner of Youth Journalism International’s 2011 Excellence in Journalism Awards in the Sports Features category.

Ben won the award thanks to a selection of articles published for InTheSnow Magazine during the 2010/11 season. The awards honoured students in 16 different counties around the globe. Ben was one of two winners in England. Youth Journalism International’s second annual worldwide journalism contest awarded student journalists for their work in everything from news to photography and cartoons.

Ben is regular face at InTheSnow and SkiNews.co.uk. Ben was recently announced as the Assistant Online Editor of the Website and will take up the position full time in July 2011. Ben said of the award, “It’s a fabulous award to win and I’m well and truly over the moon. InTheSnow is a fantastic publication and I’m honoured to be a part of the team. I’m really looking forward to next season and starting work on the magazine again.”

Award-winning journalists from Europe, Africa and North America helped judge the yearly contest, including a media professional from ESPN.

“Students’ work is so often overlooked that we’re thrilled to highlight some of the best young journalists across the globe,” said Steve Collins, YJI’s board president. “Those who say journalism is dying should take a look at what we see day in and day out. They’d feel a lot better about the prospects for this crucial profession.”

Among the articles that managed to win Ben the award were:

Ever Dreamt Of Heli-Skiing (November 2010)

Discover The Alps Of Alta Val Susa This Season (December 2010)

10 Minutes With Ski Nevada (December 2010)

UK Sport Cuts Winter Sport Funds (January 2011)

The Mix-Matched Life Of The Chalet Girl (February 2011)

InTheSnow is the UK’s most read free ski magazine and is published October – March each season.
