The Thing, John Carpenter’s famous scary movie set in an Antarctic research station, is to be given a special screening at an indoor snow centre this month.

Snow Factor Braehead, Scotland’s only indoor real-snow facility, is set to use its sub-zero real-snow setting to put the chill in dozens of horror-film fans when it hosts the one-off screening of The Thing as part of the 13th annual Glasgow Film Festival (#GFF17).

The showing on 23 February will allow moviegoers to enjoy the pop-up Snow Factor “cinema” venue, but everyone attending is advised to wrap up warmly for the special 35th anniversary screening of the sci-fi horror, which stars Kurt Russell.

“We are used to offering our customers chilly fun. However, this is the first time we will play our part in creating a distinctly chilly atmosphere as guests take their seats for a screening of The Thing,” said Penny Dunn, Business Development Manager at Snow Factor, who added: “It’s fantastic to offer our permanently snow-covered slopes as a setting for what is a renowned horror film. It is definitely one of the more unusual events we will have hosted!”

Running from 15 to 26 February, the Glasgow Film Festival will see 310 events and separate screenings of films from 38 countries shown across the city. Tickets for the showing of The Thing at 10am on Thursday 23 February are on sale via: glasgowfilm.org/
