Ski jumping and sporting legend Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards has announced that he will be working with Kicking Horse Powder Tours to host a holiday at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in British Columbia, Canada, which will also feature a tour of Eddie’s completion venue at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics just over the provincial border in Alberta.
The week will include resort based skiing, alongside privately hosted dinners, evening events, a night time snowmobile expedition and that exclusive tour of the Canadian Olympic Park with Eddie, where he became a household name during the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympic Games, as recently immortalised in the new film of Eddie’s Olympic exploits released earlier this year.
The trip is open to skiers of intermediate level and above who are confident skiing on blue and red slopes as a minimum, with lots of options for more advanced skiers comfortable with black graded runs or have off-piste experience. T Throughout the week, guests will have ample opportunity to ski with Eddie in the resorts of Kicking Horse, Lake Louise and Revelstoke – all known for both their on-piste and off-piste skiing.
Although known to millions for his heroic and inspirational efforts in the Ski Jumping events during the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, Eddie was, in fact, initially a downhill racer. Today Eddie is a professional skier and will be happy to share his knowledge and guidance throughout the week. He is also renowned as a great after dinner and motivational speaker so participants on the trip can expect to be inspired and amused.
“I’m really looking forward to visiting Kicking Horse resort and experiencing the famous terrain on offer there, I’ve heard so much about it and I’ve always wanted to ski there myself,” said Eddie, “Going back to the Olympic ski jumps in Calgary is going to be really exciting too – it will certainly bring back some memories.”
Besides Eddie, The Kicking Horse Powder Tours team will be on hand throughout the week, guiding in resort, hosting at the lodge and generally ensuring everything is running smoothly.
The tour runs from February 25th to March 4th 2017 and costs £2,595 per person. Transfers to Kicking Horse from Calgary International Airport are included in the package but flights to Calgary are not, however they can be arranged through Kicking Horse Powder Tours on request .
Guests will stay seven nights in Vagabond Lodge, a boutique hotel close to the main lifts and base area at Kicking Horse. Apaert from accommodation and transfers the price includes breakfast and lunch daily, 5 hosted evening dinners and events, six days of resort based skiing with Eddie and your in-resort KHPT Guide, snowmobile evening, all lift passes, all ski or snowboard hire, airport transfer from/to Calgary Airport and all transportation for the week. There’s also the option to Heli ski with Purcell Heli Skiing at additional cost.
