Where To Ski or Snowboard In Austria This Week Ending February 25th, 2017

Virtually no fresh snow has been reported in Austria this week and conditions were described as ‘almost Spring-like’ in Kitzbuhel (pictured below).

On the one hand that means lovely sunny days to be on the slopes, the less good news is that it’s probably warmer than it should be.

Bases are fairly good (mostly 30-90cm at resort level, 1-2m on higher runs) so warm weather isn’t too big a disaster and there are signs of fresh snow on the way with most areas due to get 30-60cm by this time next week if forecasts prove correct.  A few resorts, including Mayrhofen, are saying their resort level snow has now all gone but most have something.

Interestingly the only fresh snow that was reported in Austria this week – all 5cm/2q inches of it, was at the area that’s had the thinnest base all winter with almost no snow falling until February – Bad Kleinkirchheim down in the south eastern corner of Austria.
