Sun Peaks in BC, Canada says work will start this spring on new trails in the resort’s West Morrisey and Gil’s area. Skiable terrain will grow to 4,200 acres for the 2014/2015 winter season making it one of the largest in North America and joint second biggest in Canada with Lake Louise, after Whistler Blackcomb.

In addition the resort’s flagship Delta Hotel will come under local ownership and be renamed the  Sun Peaks Grand.

From small beginnings 50 years ago, Sun Peaks Resort has grown significantly, especially in the past two decades after being purchased by Nippon Cable in 1992.

“Sun Peaks has emerged as one of Canada’s must-ski resorts, and knowing that we’re building on our considerable success with local management and ownership of the Grand, as well as new runs, is an important signal to everyone, both here at Sun Peaks and in key visitor markets, that we’re adding even more value to our resort guests’ experience,” said Nancy Greene, Director of Skiing at Sun Peaks.
