Peak Retreats, the French Alps ski specialist, has had the idea of help its clients make the most of their drive from the UK to the Alps by offering en-route hotels that offer that little bit more than a roadside bed for the night.
“Each accommodation has been selected to offer a true sense of escapism while being located a short drive from the main routes between Calais and the Alps,” a Peak Retreats spokesperson said.
The new options include vineyard hotels in world-famous wine regions such as Burgundy and Champagne adding a bit of ‘vine dining’ for Peak Retreats’ clients to enjoy while journeying to and from the Alps.
Examples include the Loisium Wine & Spa Hotel (below) in the famous Champagne region, located halfway between Reims and Chalons en Champagne. This stylish modern concept hotel creates a fusion of wine, design, spa and gastronomy. The hotel has facilities including a champagne and wine bar, a brasserie with open kitchen and magnificent views of the surrounding vineyards, an on-site spa with year-round heated outdoor pool, sauna and in-spa champagne bar. Prices start from £140pp/night and include champagne tasting, access to the Loisium Wine Spa and breakfast.
Or Les Sept Fontaines (pictured top), a four-star hotel located in the south of Burgundy and ideally located for exploring several famous wine routes, including Route des Vins Mâconnais-Beaujolais and Route des Grand Crus de Bourgogne. The hotel offers 39 comfortable rooms in a 17th-century building, benefitting from a wine tasting cellar, bistronomic restaurant, a spa, as well as an atmospheric lounge wine bar. Prices start from £154pp/night and include dinner, access to the wine cellar with accompanying wine tasting, spa area access and breakfast.
