Swiss ski areas are still open and fighting a massive PR battle to be able to stay open through the Christmas and New Year holidays as pressures intensify both internally and from most of the countries surrounding it, to close the slopes.

The past few days and weeks has seen the publication of negative social media pictures of big, if orderly, queues to board lifts at a number of resorts. Queuing skiers are mainly wearing masks but don’t appear socially-distanced in the pictures.

Now Verbier has put out a call for what it calls ‘COVID ANGELS’ to help maintain pandemic-spread-prevention measures it has in place over a three week period from December 19, 2020 to January 9, 2021.

The job description includes informing visitors on the measures in force at the communal, cantonal and federal levels, raising visitors awareness of compliance with existing protective measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 and enforcing existing protective measures combat the spread of COVID.

Applicants should have an open and outgoing personality, a good knowledge of the region, the ability to work independently, French as a mother tongue and a good knowledge of English plus the “ability to work outdoors at 1,500m altitude.”

Applications close December 14th, 2020, “remuneration and working hours to be defined.”
