Three more ski resorts have opened in Austria, Finland and Switzerland for the 2019-20 ski season.

It means that 16 ski areas are already operating in five European countries, half of them in Austria.

The Titlis glacier above Engelberg in Switzerland (pictured top) has opened, the third glacier in the country to do so, joining Saas Fee and Zermatt.

The Kitzsteinhorn glacier above Kaprun is the latest Austrian area to open (pictured above) and up in Lapland, Finland’s largest ski resort, Levi, has opened a run, joining Ruka there which opened last week.

Whilst the Kitzsteinhorn and Engelberg are glacier ski areas, Levi (pictured below), like Ruka, uses snow saved from last spring and spreads it back out on the slopes when temperatures cool in the autumn.

Kitzbuhel will use the same technique to open in a week’s time.
