Les 2 Alpes, which claims to have the largest skiable glacier in Europe, has announced it will launch its summer skiing season with an Outdoor Festival for the second year.
The resort says the festival will run from the 22nd to 24th June 2018 and will offer both pros and non-pros the chance to try outdoor activities such as mountain biking, paragliding, trail running, street golf and slacklines, as well as skiing and snowboarding and having the chance to take part in contests. These will include a freestyle competition organised during the weekend.
“Taking part in all those activities – or watching them – will make you hungry, so the resort will organise big outdoor picnics every day,” a resort spokesperson said.
Visitors can also take part in more gentle activities such as yoga, hiking, swimming, or use electric bikes and there will be an exhibitor area where outdoor brands will display their latest products.
Last spring and summer were particularly hot in the Alps and Les 2 Alpes and other summer glacier ski areas had to end their season earlier as snow cover melted from the glacier. The resort also cancelled their usual re-opening for 10 days at the end of October as they said snow cover on the glacier had not recovered enough at that point. However they have had a lot of snow this winter and the snow depth on the glacier now stands at more than two metres.
