Banff’s Sunshine Village has confirmed it will launch its 2025/26 ski season almost a week ahead of schedule, opening later today, Sunday 2nd November.
That’s unless another resort makes a surprise move (as happened in the US last weekend when Keystone snuck in after Arapahoe Basin made their opening announcement), Sunshine will be the first ski area in Canada to welcome skiers and snowboarders this winter.
“Yep, you read that right—tomorrow (Sunday November 2nd) we’ll be the first resort in Canada to open for the 2025/26 ski and snowboard season! To our organization’s knowledge this is our earliest opening ever!” the resort announced online on Saturday.
The resort had originally planned to begin operations on 8th November, with nearby Lake Louise expected to open on the 7th with a ski in denim day. But consistent snowfall throughout October, intensifying with low temperatures over the past week, has allowed Sunshine to accelerate its timeline.
For opening day, Sunshine will run the Strawberry Express lift and debut a terrain park featuring seven elements. Pictures in this story were taken last thursday.
