Arctic Marathon For Cancer Charity

Skiing for 42km across an astonishingly beautiful Arctic landscape is not the usual way to raise money for good causes, but it’s the latest exciting challenge offered by cancer charity Walk the Walk, the charity best known for its bra-clad moonlit marathons through London and Edinburgh – the Moon Walks, which has raised nearly £90million for breast cancer research.

But this challenge is different. Following a back country ski trail through the stunning wilderness of the Abisko National Park in Swedish Lapland, the trip will be tough but rewarding as well as offering life-changing experiences and a chance to see the Arctic wilderness without other tourists.

Although most appealing to experienced skiers, Walk the Walk will support the less experienced who will ski in small groups of eight or fewer, accompanied by supportive park rangers. The event, which runs from 27th February to 4th March 2014, will include two days of trekking, and three nights in snug mountain lodges looking out for the northern lights.  The trek ends with two nights in the famous Ice Hotel, plus a husky-sled ride to the airport.
