Pitztal and Stubai Glaciers To Open Next Weekend

STORY BY Patrick Thorne 11th September 2017

Austria’s Pitztal and Stubai Glacier have announced they will open for the 2017-18 ski season this coming Saturday , 16th September.

Glacier ski slopes in the Alps have received significant September summer snowfalls over the past two weekends, building fresh snow bases after a summer of high temperatures melting snow off the glacial ice.

Austria’s Hintertux glacier was joined last week by the re-opening Molltal ski area and Solden glacier ski slopes meaning five Austrian areas will be open – more than the total number of ski areas open in the rest of the northern hemisphere combined.

Austria’s three other glacier ski areas at Dachstein, Kaunertal and the Kitzsteinhorn say they will also open soon.
