Val Thorens, the highest major ski resort in Europe, has announced plans to open the highest zip wire on the continent this winter.
The breath taking new activity will link the top of Orelle (top of the chairlift “Bouchet” at 3,230m) and Val Thorens (top of the “Funitel de Thorens” at 3,000m), with a 1,300m long zip line. Riders on the new thrill ride will descend up to 250 metres above the resort’s glacier.
Riding the wire will provide, “A few minutes of pure exhilaration and the unique joy of gliding along a cable; giving you a bird’s eye view over the high mountains’ fabulous landscapes…” said a statement from the resort.
The new wire adds to Val Thorens’ growing list of high adrenaline options besides ski and board which already include the longest toboggan run in France with six kilometres of track made up of banked turns and a variety of gradients over a 45-minute descent; mountain biking on snow over 700 metre descent and ice driving with another new option this winter of karting and the ice circuit.
