Rather ironically, particularly given the dry start to the season in Europe, and as more than 99% of the world’s ski areas are currently closed, there has been fresh snowfall reported in most of the planet’s major ski regions over the past 72 hours – essentially It’s Snowing All Over The World.
The latest areas to report heavy snowfall include Eastern Europe and Northern Scotland, where snow has been falling down to valley level for the first time since January. Glencoe and Cairngorm ski areas here are open in to May, Cairngirm is pictured top.
There’s also been fresh snow in Scandinavia, with Hemsedal in Norway reporting 10cm of fresh cover overnight (picture this morning below), it’s also still operating.
These latest snowfalls follow heavy fresh snowfalls in the Alps since the weekend which are ongoing and have brought nearly a metre of new snow to some glacier areas now.
In North America there have been similar big snowfalls reported in California, Colorado and Utah.
Snow is also arriving in the southern hemisphere with La Parva in Chile (above) and Cathedral in Argentina (below) both reporting around a foot/30cm of fresh snow.
