This last two days have seen over 150 girls from 31 schools across the UK descend on Flaine, France for the British Schoolgirls Races 2017.
The two-day event attracted girls of all levels of ski racing – from those relatively new to racing, to some of Great Britain’s rising ski stars. And again it proved to be a brilliant event for aspiring female ski racers and giving young racers aged from Under 14 to Under 21 valuable competitive experience.
The two days kicked off for the girls with a Giant Slalom and team Parallel Slalom on Monday and concluded with the Slalom on Tuesday, followed by a prize-giving at the impress Flaine auditorium.
BSR Giant Slalom
On day one the girls tackled the BSR Giant Slalom. Taking the overall GS prize was Isabelle Lander from New Hall A, with Isabella Colley from Reeds A taking second and Corinna Bertazzoni from Woldingham A taking third.
Taking the age group wins were Felicity Harrison from Francis Holland for the U21s, Isabella Colley for the U18s, Isabelle Lander for the U16s and Giselle Gorringe from North London Collegiate School for the U14s.
For the unregistered racers, the winners were Felicity Harrison who doubled up to also claim the unregistered U21s prize, Alesha Jani from Wycombe Abbey A took top spot for the U18s, Alysha Brown from Moreton Hall took the U16 win and Lydia McKimm deom Wycombe Abbey A was the winner in the U14s.
Reeds A GS Shield for the Best School, with Sherboen A in second and Downe House A in third. The prize for the best unregistered team was won by Wycombe Abbey A with Moreton Hall A taking second spot and St Mary’s Ascot A in third.
BSR Parallel Slalom
In the Parallel Slalom, the Ladies’ Ski Club Junior Challenge Cup was won by Ipswich High after the beating New Hall A in a nail biting final.
BSR Slalom
On Day two in the BSR Slalom, the overall prize was won by British racer Alexa Eliff from Ipswich High A, In second place was Corinna Bertazzoni from Woldingham A and Giselle Gorringe from NLCS A took third.
The Best Overall School prize went to Ipswich High A with Downe House A finishing in second and Reeds A in third. The prize for the best unregistered team was won by Moreton Hall A, with Wycombe Abbey A taking second spot and St Mary’s Ascot in third.
Taking the age group wins were Gabrielle Jabre from St Mary’s Ascot A for the U21s, Alexandra Lilywhite from Reeds A for the U18s, Corinna Bertazzoni for the U16s and Alexa Elliff for the U14s.
For the unregistered racers, Gabrielle Jabre who won the overall U21 category also took top spot for the unregistered U21s, Antonia Durant from Ipswich High was the winner for the U18s, Alysha Brown won the U16s prize and Clementine Black took the win for the U14s.
BSR Combined
There were also Combined prizes (the GS and Slalom times combined together) across all age categories. The overall Combined winner was Corinna Bertazzoni, with Giselle Gorringe taking second and Emily Nokes from Sherborne A taking third.
Taking the age group wins were Gabrielle Jabre for the U21s, Isabella Colley for the U18s, Corinna Bertazzoni for the U16s and Giselle Gorringe for the U14s.
For the unregistered racers, the winners were Gabrielle Jabre for the U21s, Antonia Durant for the U18s, Alysha Brown for the U16s and Lydia McKimm for the U14s.
Reeds A took the Combined top spot for the Best School, with Downe House A in second and Sherborne A in third. The prize for the best unregistered team was won by Moreton Hall A with Wycombe Abbey A taking second spot and St Mary’s Ascot in third.
The Best B Team went to Surbiton High B with New Hall B in second and Downe House B in third.
