Breckenridge ski area in Colorado is working on the new Peak10 Falcon SuperChair which is being upgraded from a quad to a six-seater, expanding Peak 10’s uphill capacity by 25% for the 2017-18 ski season.

A Black Hawk helicopter has been carefully dismantling the Falcon SuperChair to make way for the improved version with the new chair keeping the same name, but set to offer an easier and faster ride up Peak 10 when it opens.

Breck’s Peak 10 is renowned for its views, steep runs, challenging mogul fields and tree trails and is a favourite local spot for advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders.

Removing the 19 multi-ton towers took just over two hours and clears the way for the new towers and terminals to be installed this September. The new terminals will match the look and feel of the Colorado SuperChair’s natural wood aesthetic.

This upgrade is another milestone in a wave of recent capital improvements at the ski area geared towards enhancing the guest experience – including the opening of Pioneer Crossing, a new 490-seat restaurant on Peak 7 last season; an upgrade of the Colorado SuperChair in 2014; and 500 acres of new terrain on Peak 6 in 2013.

Breckenridge Ski Resort will open for the 2017-18 winter ski and snowboard season on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017.
