Val Cenis will celebrate its 50th birthday with a variety of family-friendly events, from the 1st – 8th April 2017.

From torchlit descents, night skiing and DJ nights to classical concerts, an open-air ball, entertainment throughout the village and a spring picnic – Val Cenis has planned a week of fun-filled activities to celebrate its 50th birthday, with something happening in the village every day.

The highlight of the week will be the ‘LUMIERES!’ light show, which will take place on Thursday 6th April, and promises to shed light on half a century of innovation. The evening will also include a torchlit descent (open to all), a huge ‘XXL’ fireworks display and an open-air ball.

Big 5-0 For Val Cenis

Other entertainment throughout the week includes a performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons; bobsledding; an electro music evening; a traditional Fireman’s Ball (Bal des Pompiers); and plenty of opportunities to enjoy some vin chaud (mulled wine) and soak up the atmosphere. For children in particular, the Cirque Blanc ski show will be performing on Monday 3rd April.

Val Cenis plays host to a number of great events throughout the year, including La Grand Odyssee Dog Sled Race, which runs across the Alps in January for ten days, including a stage in Val Cenis. The race spans an incredible 560 miles (approx.) in all and is a really fun event to experience. We had the opportunity to visit this year and found it was an awesome atmosphere and the enthusiasm of those beautiful dogs is really infectious!

Tour operator Peak Retreats are offering guests the chance to visit Val Cenis during the celebratory week and stay at Les Chalets de Flambeau which are four star self-catered apartments at the foot of the slopes, by the Pré Novel chairlift and the ski school meeting point with prices from £272pp for the week.
